Chaplains to the College of St Nicholas
In the middle years of the 15th century,
Bishop Ingram de Lyndesay took steps for the corporate organisation of the chaplains serving altars in the Kirk of St Nicholas, and in 1540 the collegiate constitution of the Kirk was completed when the vicarage was given to “the college of the chaplains of the said St Nicholas Kirk….for the sustentation of a provost.”
In the latter years of the 16th century, after the sweeping changes brought about by the Reformation of religion, the ministry of the parish of St Nicholas was organised on a collegiate basis which persisted until the division of the parish in 1829.
Following the reunion of the Church of Scotland congregations in 1980, the style “Parish and Collegiate Kirk of St Nicholas” was informally and occasionally adopted. In 1989 the office of Chaplain was reinstated. New Chaplains were added in 2006 and 2010. Current Chaplains are:
Chaplain Cate Adams
Captain David Alton
Father Chris Brannan
The Rev Howard Drysdale
The Rev Andrew Jolly
The Very Rev Richard Kilgour
The Rev Dr Henry Sefton
The Rev Andrew Wylie
